Handmade Monday 17 - Craft Room Floor

Hi Everyone Monday is here again, I can't believe the week has just sailed by. I haven't been able to do much in the way of craft work this week as my craft room has been out of bounds whilst the floor was being painted.

I did finish the rag rug I was making last week. It has now been backed with hessian and I think it looks great on my newly painted craft room floor.

It's not very big but it is large enough for me to sit on if I need to get down on the floor to work on anything.

I like to have lots of space so it's nice to have an easy clean floor that I can use if necessary.

I've now been organising my craft room and trying to find a place for everything. I've added some photo's, sorry they are not great but will give you an idea of what I'm doing.

I will be making curtains for the cupboards to keep the dust out and to make it look tidy.

Josie came in to have a look around once the floor was dry. I was busy trying to take some photo's and just caught her leaving the room. She isn't usually allowed in the craft room so she wanted to have a good nose around before being asked to leave.

I will be decorating these shelves as soon as I feel up to it. Clearing the room and painting the floor caused a fibro flare so I will have to take it easy for a few days.

I will be putting the rag rug instructions on my website as soon as I'm able to concentrate for long enough.

Handmade Monday 16 - Rag Rug

This is my very first Handmade Monday post. I have been busy making a rag rug this week. I had lots of left over scraps of fabric from other projects. I had also bought some remnants from ebay for a patchwork project I haven't got round to yet.
I will be painting the floor in my craft room soon and I will need a nice rug to put on the down once it's done. I cut out lots of strips of fabric and plaited them to make a long strand of fabric. I then stitched the plaits together to make a rug. I will be putting the step by step instructions up on my website soon.
I haven't quite finished it yet as I need to tidy it up a bit. I will be using some hessian for the backing to protect it.

Plaited Rag Rug

I'm off to look at what everyone else is up to now. You can find lots of other great crafts at Handmade Monday on Wendy's fantastic blog.

Wire Keyrings

I have made two wire wrapped keyrings. They were fun to make and have already sold one. I did take a pic of the one sold but it is out of focus. Luckily the buyer is a friend and I will ask her if I can take another pic when she gets back from holiday.
Here are the two others that I have made.

I will be adding the step by step instructions to my website as soon as I've sorted the photo's out.
I think they make great handbag charms as well as keyrings. Let me know what you think your comments are appreciated.

Meet Josie

Thought you might like to meet our dog Josie. She's a German Shepherd and Border Collie cross. We bought from a local kennels in Jan 2010 when she was just 2 months old.

Here she is now at 18 months.

Here she is helping my daughter do some of her drawings. She loves sitting up at the table to help out. I have to keep her out of the craft room though or I would have hairs everywhere.

Papier Mache

I've been busy working on some of my papier mache items this week. As Papier mache takes ages to dry between layers I always have lots of things on the go at the same time.
Here are two of the sun plaques in different stages of completion.
The one on the right is a variation on the sun theme that I'm experimenting with. These are made out of corrugated cardboard with paper pulp applied directly over the top. I have several of these that I'm working on.

Here are two of my cats that I haven't worked on for some time. I'm not sure how to finish them at the moment. I have had a few comments that they looks good as they are. I'm now toying with the idea of giving them a weathered stone finish. Do let me know what you think any ideas will be appreciated.

I have almost finished the blue vase it just needs a couple more coats of varnish.

Hope you like these examples of my work. I have some other projects on the go that I will post about soon.
